MENSCHEN PARTNER

MENSCHEN PARTNER Eglhofer Landtechnik A HEALTHY MIXTU The size of an enterprise is not necessarily a guarantee for success. On the contrary, often smaller companies are more flexible and nearer to their customers: Just like the dealership business of Walter Eglhofer from Epfach. He’s also a farmer and an agricultural contractor, a busy concept he explains to us here. 42

RE Walter Eglhofer sees in his mix of complementing enterprises comprising agricultural machinery dealership, farm and contractor service a good concept for the future. “interesting prices”, he reports. “In this way, crop production pays for us. With our size, this would be hardly possible with conventional agriculture.” STRENGTH OF THE FAMILY BUSINESS Does he also run his farm machinery business unconventionally? “That depends what one understands by the term,” reckons Walter Eglhofer with a smile. Even the address feeds the curiosity: Via Claudia 59. No, we’re not in Rome or Milan but instead in Epfach am Lech. An Italian street name in a 650-population Bavarian village? Yes indeed! Incidentally, Walter Eglhofer is once again working on building plans, this time for a farm machinery barn on the southern edge of the village. Alongside the main business of agricultural machinery specialist, he runs his own farm with around 15 ha which, 25 years ago, he changed to full organic management. Spelt is one of the most important crops there, for which Walter Eglhofer has secured good customers and, when the quality is right, earns “As third enterprise alongside the machinery business and farm we run a small farm contracting enterprise specialising in forage and straw harvesting: In this sense, our enterprise is certainly unconventional. But we are very conventional in how we work with our customers. We do it the way smaller family businesses amongst dealerships have always done. My wife Marlies is in our business fulltime and manages the office, the sales room and the spare parts depot. We are always available for our customers, literally as well as figuratively speaking. What is really important for us is reliability and flexibility and our three committed employees help us very much here. This quality from team and work is apparently 43
